| Annual Nobel Meeting in Lindau |
|
Since 2001 around 20 outstanding Indian students selected by the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST) participate in the yearly Nobel Laureate Meeting on the picturesque banks of the Lake of Constance. There they have the opportunity to discuss closely with international Nobel Laureates professional but also general questions. The German Research Foundation (DFG) organizes subsequently a week’s trip through various research institutions all over Germany. |

| Helmholtz Young Investigators Groups |
|
The promotion of young scientists being one of the key objectives of the Helmholtz-Association top junior scientists are granted independence early on with good conditions for research and secure career prospects based on proven scientific achievements. |

| European Young Investigator Award |
|
The European research funding
organisations, under the umbrella of the
European Heads of Research Councils (EUROHORCS),
have issued a second call for proposals for the
European Young Investigator (EURYI) Award. The aim of the EURYI
Award is to effectively enable and encourage
outstanding young researchers from all over the
world to work in one of the participating
European countries in the programme for a
five-year period. Indian researchers can apply
to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG),
who handles the proposals of applicants, who
want to carry out their research work in
Germany.
Proposals for the 2006 EURYI Award programme may
be submitted to the DFG from 1 September through
30 November 2006. |

| DFG-Programs |
|
Indian young researchers can participate in postdoctoral DFG programs and in joint doctoral training programs within International Research Training Groups. |

|
International Max-Planck-Research Schools |
|
The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft promotes junior scientists through International Max-Planck-Research Schools (IMPRS).
Various doctoral programs and in some cases MA
programs are offered. Approximately 90 young Indian
scientists are presently enrolled at IMPRS. Indian
guest scientist thus constitute the largest single
group of foreign nationals in this programme. |

| Alexander von Humboldt Awards |
|
The Sofja Kovalevskaja Award is for younger outstanding scientists from all countries and from all disciplines. The award provides funding for
5 years up to a total of 1.6 million EUR. The Friedrich-Wilhelm-Bessel Research Awards are for younger outstanding scientists who are resident outside Germany. The award can amount to 55.000 EUR. |
