CDRI is one of the 38 laboratories under the aegis of CSIR with the Prime Minister of the country as its head. | Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad |
CDFD is an autonomous institution supported by the
Department of Biotechnology (DBT). It is engaged in providing services in Bioinformatics, Diagnostics, DNA Fingerprinting.
It carries out basic and applied research in various fields like bioinformatics, cancer biology, bacterial genetics, immunology, molecular oncology, molecular virology. The Centre is also recognised by the University of Hyderabad for pursuing Ph.D. programme in Life Sciences. |

| Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata |
IICB was established in 1935 as the first non official centre in India for biomedical research and came under the aegis of
CSIR in 1956. Research activities of the institute are spread into seven major areas namely Cellular Physiology, Biotechnology, Immunology, Human Genetics and Genomics, Drug Design, Synthetic and Natural Chemistry and Infectious Diseases. |

| Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), Delhi |
IGIB is a constituent laboratory of
CSIR carrying out research leading to development of technologies in modern biotechnology and biological sciences such as infectious diseases, molecular pathogenesis and recombinant DNA technology while the main focus is on Genomics and Bioinformatics. IGIB has created a unique joint venture “Genomed” with an Indian pharma company, Nicholas Piramal India Limited (NPIL). The Institute has over 40 Bioinformatics professionals working on various projects.

Established in 1984 IMTECH is the youngest of the 38 CSIR
laboratories. The Institute is engaged in basic
and application oriented research in the areas of
molecular biology and microbial genetics, cell
biology and immunology, protein science and
engineering, fermentation technology and applied
microbiology. |

| International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Delhi |
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology conducts innovative research in life sciences for the benefit of developing countries. The Centre is dedicated to advanced research and training in molecular biology and biotechnology (also plant biotechnology). Principal laboratories of this international network are located in Trieste, Italy, and New Delhi addressing both basic and applied research problems. |

Set up in 1959 the institution offers courses at undergraduate, post graduate and post doctoral levels all recognised by the Medical Council of India and affiliated to the Delhi University. The campus includes the college and three of its associated hospitals viz. Lok Nayak Hospital, G.B. Pant Hospital and Guru Nanak Eye Centre whereas two others, Chacha Nehru Bal Chaikitsalaya and the Sushruta Trauma Centre are located outside. |

Established in 1997 by the
Department of Biotechnology, NBRC
disposes of infrastructural facilities and a multidisciplinary research team to work in the area of neuroscience. Besides research, the centre is a medium for teaching and training in this field. In addition to the in-house academic programmes, NBRC has promoted a M.Sc. course in neuroscience at the
Tata Institute for Fundamental Research
(TIFR), Mumbai. Post-doctoral fellowships have been established in different centres all over India. International
collaborations include the National Institute of Mental Health, USA and the RIKEN Brain Science Institute, Japan. |

| National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore |
An offspring of the
TIFR, NCBS conducts basic research in frontier areas of biology like Biochemistry, Biophysics and Bioinformatics, Genetics and Development, Cellular Organisation and Signaling and Neurobiology. This Centre of Excellence offers two academic programmes leading to Ph.D. degrees. |

NCL is a research, development and consulting organisation with a focus on chemistry and chemical engineering belonging to the family of CSIR. More than 350 scientists are engaged at NCL and over 400 graduate students are pursuing their research towards doctoral degrees. NCL scientists collaborate with various institutes in India as well as abroad. |

An autonomous institution supported by the DBT, NII conducts advanced research addressing the basic mechanisms involved in body defence, host pathogen interactions and related areas. Over thirty independent research groups work on Gene Regulation, Immunity and Infection, Molecular Design and Reproduction and Development. NII also provides advanced interdisciplinary teaching and training, including a doctoral programme in affiliation with the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). |

A collaboration between IGIB and CSIR and supported by the DST and the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), TCGA is a public private partnership project providing life sciences services in India. Services include High Throughput Sequencing, Fragment Analysis, Proteomics, Oligo Nucleotide Synthesis, Bioinformatics etc. |
