| Indian Institutes of
Technology (IITs) |
The Indian Institutes of Technology are the
premier educational institutions for science and
technology spread all over India. At present there
are seven IITs offering instruction mainly in
natural sciences and providing excellent
facilities for post graduate studies and research.
Admission to Undergraduate Programmes (B .Tech.)
at all IITs are made through the Joint Entrance
Examination (JEE). Foreign nationals can also
apply directly for the postgraduate programmes
under Cultural Exchange Fellowship Programmes,
Memorandum of Understanding or under the
Self-financing scheme. The IIT campuses dispose of
residential facilities for students and faculty,
libraries, bank ATMs, health centres, sport
facilities and various student activity centres. |

IIT Delhi
(IITD) |
Established in 1961, IITD offers
undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D.
programmes in various disciplines. The
Institute has thirteen departments and eleven
centres and close to 5000 students on roll.
IITD has signed various Memoranda of
Understanding (MoUs) with institutes /
industry all around the world. |

IIT Guwahati (IITG) |
Established in 1994, IITG is the sixth member
of the IIT community. At present the Institute
has eleven departments in all major
engineering and science disciplines, offering
programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate
and doctoral level. The faculty of IIT
Guwahati also provides consultancy services to
industry in the respective fields of
expertise. |

IIT Kanpur (IITK) |
IITK was set up with in 1959. The Institute
now has 1450 undergraduate and 850
postgraduate students, 300 faculty members,
and more than 1500 supporting staff. It awards
Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees in
various branches of technology and science.
Currently most faculty members of the
Chemistry department of IITK are Alexander von
Humboldt fellows.. |

IIT Kharagpur (IITKgp) |
Set up in 1950 IITKgp is the first of the IIT
family. The Institute started with ten
academic departments, a little over 200
students and 42 faculty members. It now has
about eighteen academic departments, five
centres of excellence with around 2700
students and about 450 faculty members. The
institute has signed MoUs with many
organisations for consultancy services... |

IIT Madras (IITM) |
IITM was set up in 1959 with German support.
The Institute has fifteen academic departments
and a few advanced research centres in various
disciplines of engineering and sciences, with
nearly 100 laboratories. IITM has nearly 460
faculty, 4500 students and 1250 administrative
& supporting staff. The Institute has signed
MoUs with several universities abroad. IITM
still has a strong connection to Germany,
being the only IIT having a German Studies
Division.. |

IIT Bombay (IITB) |
IITB was established in 1958. The Institute on
an average admits 500 candidates for the
undergraduate programme, 100 candidates for
M.Sc. programmes, 550 candidates for different
postgraduate programmes and 110 for Ph.D
programmes every year. |

IIT Roorkee (IITR) |
After completing 150 years of its existence,
the "College of Engineering, Roorkee" was
included in the IIT family in 2001 and was
renamed Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee.
It offers Bachelor courses in ten disciplines
of Engineering and Architecture and
Postgraduate Degrees in fifty five disciplines
of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Architecture
and Planning. The Institute also carries out
sponsored research and industrial consultancy. |
