The 6th Science Circle Lecture will be
organised on September 26th, 2006 at the India Habitat Centre,
New Delhi. Dr. K. Kasturirangan, MP & Director, National
Institute of Advanced Studies, IISc, Bangalore would deliver a
talk on “Recent Developments in India’s Space Programme”. The
Lecture will be followed by informal discussions and a get
together. |

The Indo German Science and Technology
Committee which meets once in every two years alternately in
India and Germany will meet in New Delhi on September 25-26th,
2006. Senior representatives from the concerned German and
Indian Ministries and from the Research Organisations of both
sides will discuss relevant issues to take fundamental
decisions in the bilateral cooperation. |

A two day International Conference on
Clean Energy will be organised by the Federation of Indian
Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) jointly with the
German Embassy, New Delhi. Indian and German Parliamentarians
from the Indo German Parliamentary Forum will participate in
the Conference. Part of the conference constitutes a workshop
organised by Germany's largest Research Organisation, the
Helmholtz Association, to link researchers from both countries
working in the field of energy. The Conference will address
decision makers, politicians, industry - particularly SME's,
researchers, from both, India and Germany, and seek to set a
road map for strenghthened Indo German Energy Cooperation. |

The European Commission, under the
Asia-Link Programme, is funding a series of seven European
Higher Education Fairs to be held in China, India, Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The objective
of the EHEFs is to provide a framework for further pursuit of
higher education cooperation between Europe and Asia,
enhancing mutual awareness between the two regions. The EHEF
in Delhi will be organised by the
DAAD at the India Habitat Centre, New
Delhi from November 24-26, 2006.

The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, Germany is organising a Roadshow on "Tele-Education in Robotics" in India in association with the European Union Delegation of India, the German Embassy, New Delhi, and the German Federal Ministry for Science and Education from October 09-23, 2006. The Roadshow to be held in Delhi, Kanpur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Madurai, Chennai and Coimbatore will demonstrate advanced technology aspects in tele-operating robot hardware in Germany from India via Internet to support learning units in Robotics.

India will be the Guest of Honour at the
Frankfurt Book Fair to be held from October 04-08, 2006. Apart
from a series of events throughout the year, thirty authors
will present their work among them Vikram Seth, Arundhati Roy
and Javed Akhtar. The presentation will specially focus on
authors who write in one of the twenty four other languages of
India apart from English.

An International Conference on Recent
Advances in Heat Transfer was organised by the School of
Mechanical Sciences, Karunya Institute of Technology And
Sciences, Coimbatore in cooperation with the Institute of
Thermodynamics, Technical University, Munich. The topics addressed upon
were heat and mass transfer, fluid flow,
thermo-physical properties, thermal sensors and devices. The
objective of the conference was to bring together researchers
from this field in India, Germany and other countries on a
common platform to share and disseminate scientific knowledge
and their research findings.

A three day inter-disciplinary conference
was organised by the Anna University in Chennai to present
recent developments on all aspects related to processing of
advanced materials like metals and alloys, magnetic and
electronic materials and coatings. Two keynote speakers for
the conference were from the Institute of Nanotechnology,
Germany

The Eight International Conference on
Nanostructured Materials was organised by the Department of
Metallurgy, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. The
conference provided a forum for discussion on all aspects of nanostructured materials and covered themes like New Science &
Novel Materials in the Nano Regime, Nano Structural Materials,
Nano Functional Materials, Nano Electronics, Devices and
Sensors and Nanobiotechnology. The German participation
included a VDI, Germany stand where 32 participating German
Nanotech companies were presented.

studies in Germany, the German Rectors' Conference/Hochschulrektorenkonferenz
(HRK) provides a list of all Bachelor and Master Courses
conducted in English Language at the German Universities. The
Lists provide information on the Course, State and University
with direct links to the University website. The HRK website
has an efficient search engine which enables visitors to
search for degree programmes by subject, University or by city
according to their requirement.

Technology (DST) sends every year a group of around 20 Indian
students / young researchers to the Meeting of Nobel Laureates
& students at Lindau situated on the shore of Lake Constance
in the south of Germany.

From July 12-14, 2007, an Indo-German
Workshop on Cancer Research will be organised by the German
Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ), Heidelberg, in cooperation with
the Indian Council of Medical Research. Major topics to be
covered during this workshop will be Tumor Stem Cells,
Epigenetic Mechanisms of Tumorigenesis, Epidemiology of
Cancer, Vaccination and Radiotherapy

Prof. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, the President
of the German Research Foundation (DFG), will assume the
position of the Secretary General of the newly founded
European Research Council (ERC) in Brussels in 2007. Professor
Winnacker's term of office as President of the DFG will end in
December 2006. |

Researchers now have access to a wide variety of digital media via the computer networks at universities and research institutes. Thirty large databases, electronic text collections and journals can now be accessed free of charge throughout Germany. National licences have made this new range of electronic information sources possible. The collections of literary works and publications of major international publishers, amounting to around 210 million pages, have now been put online. |

“Mirrobot”, a steel assistant for the
household was presented at the CeBit in March. It was
developed by Festo Esslingen and researchers of the
Stuttgart-based Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing
Engineering and Automation IPA. The biggest challenge is the
human-machine interaction which is being resolved by a novel
miniature camera that helps the robot to interpret gestures.
It measures distances by recording the time travelled by
infrared rays, thus delivering a 3D picture. |
