11th Science Circle Lecture by Prof. K. Mehlhorn, Director, Max Planck Institute for Computer Science on June 5th, 2008

The German Embassy, New Delhi will be organising its next Science Circle Lecture at India Habitat Centre on June 05, 2008. Prof. K. Mehlhorn, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Computer Science will deliver a talk on "Efficient Use of Computers: Challenges and Application". The Lecture will be followed by an informal discussion and get-together.

New colleague in the Science Section of the Embassy

The Science Section of the Embassy has been further strengthened by the arrival of Mr. Felix Kahle, who will serve as the Science Counsellor for the Embassy and programme manager for the Max Planck Society, Germany. The Max Planck Society is one of the leading research institutions worldwide and has a strong cooperation with India.

Journey of the Science Express

The Science Express flagged off on October 30th, 2007 is on its way on a journey throughout India covering 15,000 kms across 57 Indian cities. The train will conclude its journey in New Delhi on 4th June, 2008.

The Max Planck Society and the Department for Science & Technology are issuing joint calls for nominations/proposals 2008 for Max Planck Partner Groups and Max Planck-India Fellowships. The deadline for submitting nominations/proposals is 30 July 2008.

DAAD 15th Essay Competition

The DAAD organises an Essay Competition (Literaturwettbewerb) every year for Bachelors/Masters students studying German as main / subsidiary subject. In this competition, students are expected to write an essay, a story or a poem in German on a specified theme. The winners receive a partially sponsored trip to Germany to attend a Summer Course in German. The theme for the 15th Essay Competition is "Die Farbe Grün" (The Colour Green) and the deadline for receiving entries is September 1, 2008.

Student Satellite successfully launched into orbit

The miniature 10x10x10 cm³ COMPASS-1 satellite of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences has been launched into orbit successfully. The so-called “Pico Satellite”, with a mass of less than 1 kilogram, will take pictures of the earth from the unique point of view of a satellite in orbit. The carrier rocket was launched from the Sriharikota Space Center in India on April 28, 2008. Along with nine other large and small satellites the rocket made its way towards orbit.

Visit of 23 young Indian scientists to Lindau, Germany

The Department of Science and Technology deputes every year since 2001, a team of young scientists to the Annual Meeting of the Nobel Laureates and Students in Lindau, Germany.
The Group visits Germany for two weeks, the first week is sponsored by the Lindau Committee for the meeting of Nobel Laureates and Students and the second week includes visits to various premier German research organisations and is organised by German Research Foundation (DFG). 23 Indian students have been selected for the 2008 visit.

 

 


Call for Applications for Junior Professorship by Robert Bosch Foundation

The Robert Bosch Foundation is inviting Applications for Junior Professorship for „Research into the Sustainable Use of Renewable Resources“. Through this programme, the foundation will provide upto 1 million Euros to an outstanding young scientist to conduct research in this field for five years at a German university or institute of his / her choice. The deadline for application is June 01, 2008
