  Prof. Mlynek visits India, April 2 -16, 2007

From April 2 -16, 2007, Prof. J. Mlynek, President of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, visited India. On his agenda were meetings with senior Government officials and visits to top class institutes in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Goa. Amongst others, Prof. Mlynek visited the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Indian Institutes of Technology, AIIMS, Indian Institute of Science, Indian Space Research Organisation, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and National Institute of Oceanography. Prof. Mlynek also met the President of India, H.E. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Concluding his trip in New Delhi, he delivered a talk on the occasion of the 8th Science Circle Meeting.

 New Indo-German Centre for Infectious Diseases set-up
 

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres have jointly set-up an Indo-German Science Centre for Infectious Diseases (IGSCID). Five proposed projects will be set up over three years at an estimated cost of 4.5 million Euros which will be shared equally by the two partners. The main areas of work will be virology, developing vaccines and anti-infectives, animal models of infective diseases and zoonosis.

 German Research Foundation (DFG) Delegation in India, April 2007
 

A DFG delegation led by its Secretary General, Dr. Grunwald, visited India from April 1-13, 2007. On the Agenda were visits to various premier research organisations and meetings with representatives from Ministries in Delhi, Hyderbad, Jaipur and Kolkata. The Delegation also participated at the Conference on Research Policies organised by DFG jointly with the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS). The main purpose was to visit the newly established offices in Delhi and Bangalore and strengthen ties with DFG's cooperation partners in India.

 

 

 Indo-German Conference on Research Policies, April 3-4, 2007, New Delhi
 

A two day Indo-German Conference on Research Policies was organised by the Delhi office of the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the National Institute of Science, Technology and Development Studies (NISTADS). Sixty senior researchers, top administrators, and policy advisors from India and Germany participated to discuss the development of "Sciences and Humanities in the Knowledge Society". Among the participants were Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principle Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, Dr. Grunwald, Secretary General of the DFG, Dr. P. Banerjee, Acting Director, NISTADS and Dr. P.M. Bhargava, Vice Chairman, National Knowledge Commission. The seminar concluded with recommendations for strategic partnership, promoting young scientists and science in the youth of both countries within the framework of available funding instruments and the installation of an Indo-German Prize to be jointly conferred to two researchers from both countries for exemplary contributions.

 

 
 8th Science Circle Lecture, 13.04.2007

German Embassy organised the 8th Science Circle Lecture on 13.04.2007 in New Delhi. Prof. Jürgen Mylnek from the Helmholtz Foundation delivered a talk on “Energy Research: A Challenge for our Future”.

 DAAD workshop on Sustainable Resource Management, April 27, 2007
 

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) New Delhi together with its alumni organised a one day workshop on Sustainable Resource Management in Ecological, Economical and Socio-cultural Respects on April 27th, 2007. The workshop, organised for DAAD alumni and young researchers, facilitated a holistic discussion on varied aspects of the subject.

The Indian Immunology Society and the German Society of Immunology will jointly organise a workshop on “Immunology in Health and Disease” in July 2007 in Berlin, Germany. Various sessions on topics like Basic Immunology, Tumor and Transplantation Immunology, Infection and Immunology, Anti-Mycobacterial Immunity etc. will be organised.

 New Visa Application Procedure at German Embassy, New Delhi
 

German Embassy New Delhi has changed its visa application procedure with effect from April 16th, 2007. All applications except for long term visas are now submitted, with prior appointment, at the Visa Application Centre VFS, Nehru Place, New Delhi.
