German Embassy, New Delhi organised its 10th SC
Lecture on 18th Feb, 2008
The German Embassy, New Delhi along with the Heinrich Böll
Foundation organised a lecture on Climate change - Scientific
basis, observed consequences and risks for the future by Prof.
Anders Levermann, Professor of Dynamics of the Climate System at
the Physics Institute of Potsdam University and at the Potsdam
Institute for Climate Impact Research, Germany in New Delhi. The
lecture was attended by numerous academicians, students and
researchers working in the field of Climate and related areas.

Website of the German Information Centre
Launched, March 01, 2008
german-info.com? That's
the new website of the German Information Centre New Delhi, a
website specially designed to serve visitors from South Asia.
german-info.com has been set up to update all those interested in
Germany and South Asia. In addition, it has special sections for
journalists, businessmen, students and researchers. What is
happening between Germany and South Asia in the fields of
politics, economics, science or culture? What is interesting in
Germany? Where in South Asia can I learn German?
german-info.com has the
answers.
The German Information Centre New Delhi joins a list of seven
German Information Centres around the world, including in
Washington, Paris, Beijing, Brasilia, Mexico-City and Cairo.
These Centres cater to the information needs of countries within
a common linguistic or regional group.

Journey of the Science Express
The Science Express flagged off on October 30th, 2007 is on its
way on a journey throughout India covering 15,000 kms across 57
Indian cities. More than a million people have already walked
through this fascinating joint Indo-German pathway to discovery.
The latest stops of the Science Express were at Tamil Nadu,
Kerala and Mumbai. The train will conclude its journey in New
Delhi on 4th June, 2008.

Branch office of the Freie Universität Berlin
opened in Delhi, Feb 2008
Freie Universität Berlin is expanding its international
activities. On February 28, the university opened a new branch
office in New Delhi. The branch office, established in
cooperation with DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) will
coordinate, support, and facilitate academic exchange between
scholars and students of Freie Universität Berlin and its Indian
partner institutions.

Delegation of the German Advisory Council on
Climate Change (WBGU) in India, Feb 2008
10 members of the German Advisory Council for Global Change
(WBGU) visited Delhi, Hyderabad, Mysore and Bangalore from
February 05 – 17, 2008. The WBGU is an apex body of scientists
and social scientists formed to advise the German Federal
Government on issues pertaining to global environmental changes
and publishes flagship reports every two years making its own
choice of focal themes. German Federal Government can also
commission the Council to prepare special reports and policy
papers. Apart from participating at the Delhi Sustainable
Development Summit, the delegation met senior representatives of
the Indian Government and Industry from the related fields.

Humboldt Foundation steps up cooperation with
India
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is promoting German-Indian
academic dialogue with its new Indo-German Frontiers of
Engineering Programme. The aim is to bring together excellent
junior researchers from both countries at interdisciplinary
symposia.
Indo-German Frontiers of Engineering Conferences are the first
step on the road to long-term German-Indian collaborations
amongst young, cutting-edge engineering scientists. Together with
the Indian Department of Science and Technology, the Humboldt
Foundation is making it possible for about 60 outstanding German
and Indian engineering scientists to create networks outside
their own fields of research.
