14th Science Circle Lecture by Prof. Dr. Ute Frevert, Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Germany

The German Embassy, New Delhi, is organising its next Science Circle Lecture on March 12, 2009. Prof. Dr. Ute Frevert, Director, Max Planck Institute for Human Development will give a talk on “Does Trust Have a History”. The Lecture will be followed by informal discussions and a get together. For details contact Bhumica Chugh.

During her visit to India, Prof. Dr. Frevert will also participate in a workshop in Neemrana and a workshop in New Delhi on “Cultivating Emotion – History, Culture, Society” organised jointly by the Max Planck Institute for Human Development and the Centre for the Study of Development of Society, India.

Delegation from the Research Centre, Juelich (FZ Juelich) visits India, Feb 2009

Prof. A. Bachem, Chairman of the Board of Directors, accompanied by Mr. Guenter Lincks from the International Division of the Research Centre Juelich visited India on February 26 and 27, 2009. The Delegation met senior representatives from the Government of India and visited premier science and research institutes in Delhi to discuss the possibilities of enhancing cooperation.

 

 


Indo-German Science and Technology Centre: Call for Proposals 2009

Project proposals are invited in the fields of Biotechnology, Energy, Environmental Technologies, Health Research, and Production Technologies, under the “Indo-German Science and Technology Centre” . The IGSTC was inaugurated jointly by the German Minister for Education and Research, Dr. Annette Schavan, and the Indian Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Mr. Kapil Sibal in September 2008. The aim is to intensify cooperation between German and Indian partners from research institutions and private companies by means of 2+2 projects. Deadline of applications: April 30, 2009.

Max Planck Society: Cooperation Programme with India

Max Planck Partner Groups and Max Planck India Fellowships:

Three new Max Planck Partner Groups established, in Quantum Field Theory at the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, Pune, in Biological Physics at Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics and in Art History at Delhi University. A total of 15 Max Planck Partner Groups will be running in India in 2009, as many as in no other country. Partner Groups are led by former Indian guest researchers at Max Planck
Institutes of proven scientific excellence, who have returned to their
institutions in India.

Five young scientists have been awarded a "Max Planck India Fellowship", thereby bringing the number of Awardees to 25 in 2009. The "Max Planck-India Fellowship" is a travel grant and gives young Indian researchers an opportunity to spend minimum one month every year at a Max Planck Institute for a period of up to four years.

2nd MPG-India Partner Group Head Meeting, February 25-27, 2009

The 2nd annual meeting of the Heads of the Max Planck India Partner Groups was organised from February 25 - 27, 2009 at the S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata. The heads of the partner groups presented an overview of their projects and had site visits to the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science and Saha Institute for Nuclear Physics.

DAAD Scholarship announcements

IIT Master Sandwich Programme- DAAD offers up to 50 "Sandwich-Model" scholarships to post-graduate students registered for a Master’s degree at the following Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Madras, Bombay, Kanpur, Roorkee, Kharagpur, Guwahati. The "Sandwich Model" for Master’s students is a multi-phased scheme, in which candidates carry out their course work and research in India and Germany alternately, under the supervision of a mentor from an Indian Institute of Technology, and a mentor from a German University of Technology. The IITs will fix their own deadlines for receipt of applications, and will forward the completed applications of eligible students to the DAAD Office in New Delhi by March 31, 2009.

DLR – DAAD Research Fellowships- Applications are invited from eligible and interested candidates for a new programme implemented by the ‘Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt’ (DLR) and the ‘German Academic Exchange Service’ (DAAD). DLR is Germany's national research center for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in Aeronautics, Space, Transportation and Energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures. As Germany´s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility for the forward planning and the implementation of the German space program by the German federal government as well as for the international representation of German interests. This special programme is intended for highly-qualified foreign doctoral and postdoctoral students as well as senior scientists. DLR-DAAD Fellowships offer outstanding scientists and researchers the opportunity to conduct special research at the institutes of the DLR in Germany.DLR-DAAD Fellowships are defined and awarded on an individual basis. Each Fellowship announcement will indicate the specific qualification requirements and terms of the visit.

Sciencexpress : A Science Exhibition on wheels

‘Sciencexpress’ is a state-of-the-art science exhibition on a train traveling around India. During its journey from 30 November 2008 to 30 May 2009, it will travel around 17, 000 km covering 51 cities of the country. This 16-coach fully air conditioned train houses an exhibition which showcases cutting-edge research in science and technology. Sciencexpress is a modified version of the earlier Science Express, an Indo-German collaborative project that was flagged off by India’s Honorable Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel. The Max Planck Society and the German Exhibition partners have donated majority of the exhibits to the Department of Science and Technology after the first successful journey of the Science Express, during which more than 2 Million people visited the train.
