Welcome to the Forum for Indo German
Science Cooperation!
It is a great pleasure for me to introduce to you a
new colleague in the Science Division of the German Embassy.
Mr. Felix Kahle just arrived in Delhi and will serve in our Embassy as
Science Counsellor. Mr. Kahle also coordinates the programmes of the
Max Planck Society in India. He is from his background particularly
well prepared for his new assignment.
Mr Kahle was in charge of the cooperation with India at the headquarters
of the Max Planck Society in Munich.
The Max Planck Society is one of the leading research
institutions worldwide.
It comprises 80 institutes in Germany covering all fields of basic
research.
The strong focus of the Max Planck Society on excellence is demonstrated
by a large number of national and international awards for scientists
from Max Planck Institutes, among them 17 nobel laureates. In 2007,
Prof. Gerhard Ertl, scientist at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max
Planck Society in Berlin, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
In India the Max Planck Society has been one of the most active German
science institutions.
In cooperation with the Indian Department of Science and Technology the
Max Planck Society brought the Science Express to India - a world class
science exhibition in a train. The Science Express was flagged off by
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on 30
October 2007 in New Delhi. The Science Express continues its tour of
India until 04 June 2008. So far it attracted already more than 1
Million visitors.
Apart from the Science Express, the Max Planck Society has established
twelve research partner groups in India.
Mr. Kahle will provide a valuable new input to the Science Division of
the Embassy as well as to the future events of the Science Circle I
would like to welcome Mr Kahle to the Science Circle and I am looking
forward to the cooperation with him.
