MoU between German Research Foundation (DFG) and Department for Science and Technology

Prof. Ernst Ludwig Winnacker, the President of the German Research Foundation, DFG, and Prof. Max Huber, Vice-President of the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, and delegation visited India from October 27th until November 7th 2004.

Prof. Ramamurthy, Secretary DST, and Prof. Winnacker, DFG, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on October 29th. Broadening the scope of existing agreements between DFG and DST as well as the Indian National Science Academy, INSA, the MoU shifts the focus from individual-based to project-oriented research funding. Bilateral seminars, joint research projects, preparatory and short-term visits shall be supported with a special focus on young scientists. A Joint Advisory Committee will be set up to review and steer the implementation of the MoU.

Prof. Huber, DAAD, and Prof. Winnacker, DFG, presented the “Indo German Sci-Tech Forum” in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore. It comprised of scientific workshops by eminent German and Indian professors in the fields of “Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology”, “Environmental Research and Technologies”, “Nanotechnology” and “Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases”.
