The
German Research Foundation (DFG)
has opened a new office in
Delhi with a branch at
Hyderabad. The official
opening of the Delhi office
took place on November 04,
2006 followed by the
Inauguration of Hyderabad
branch on November 07, 2006.
The office in India is
fourth in the row after
representations in
Washington, Beijing and
Moscow. As part of the the
inaugural celebrations, DFG
organised a 2-day Alumni
Meeting on the 5th and 6th
November 2006 of the Indian
participants of the last 6
batches of Lindau Nobel
Laureates Meeting.
Prof. Winnacker, President
DFG, led the German
Delegation which visited
India for the Inauguration.
Amongst other members were
also three Vice Presidents
of the DFG. The most
important task of the new
office is the
intensification of bilateral
scientific cooperation
between India and Germany,
said Prof. Winnacker at the
Inauguration at the
Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The newly founded German
Centre for Research and
Higher Education, housed
in the same premises as the
Indo-German Chamber of
Commerce in Nyaya Marg, will
have representations of the
German Academic Exchange
Service, DAAD and the
Alexander von Humboldt
Foundation, AvH, apart from
the DFG.
On the
occasion of the inauguration
ceremony Prof. Max Huber,
Vice President, DAAD and Dr.
Goerg Schütte, Secretary
General of AvH, underlined
the possibilities of
strengthening cooperation
even further by combination
of programme offers for
Indian and German
Scientists. Prof.
Ramamurthy, Former Secretary
of the Department of Science
and Technology, and German
Ambassador Bernd Mützelburg
also graced the occasion and
deliberated on the increased
necessity of international
cooperation in the in the
field of Science and
Technology.
During the Reception hosted
on the same evening at the
lawns of the Ambassador's
residence, Dr. Ramasami,
Secretary DST, and Prof.
Winnacker signed a Programme
of Cooperation (PoC)
Agreement for the period of
2007 - 2009.
Dr. Gernot Gad, formerly
looking after international
cooperation in the DFG Bonn
office, is the first
director of the DFG India
office.
